Summer holidays?

The summer holidays are here! Time to leave school behind and hop in a boat! Now is the best time for kids of all ages to discover their passion for sailing. And besides, they’ll be well looked after at the sailing summer camps.

The groups are smaller and the supervision is better than ever. But the challenges have also grown: “This year the children have to sail the Opti alone right from the start”, says Silke Krüger from Lake Unterbach. “The camps only take place here during the day and we divide the groups up so there’s never more than ten kids at one place. The whole thing will be staggered so the groups don’t meet up. That means a bit more logistics planning, but we'll manage."

The sailing schools of the German High Seas Association Hansa (DHH) face the additional challenge of organising accommodations. Many participants come from all over Germany and stay for a week or longer in the school's own hostels. Teens over 14 years of age are allowed to stay overnight alone this year, while the little ones must be accompanied by a parent. “In our yacht schools the accommodation capacity is currently limited, due to the regulations,” says Jochen Kopf from the Hanseatic Yacht School in Glücksburg. “Families or people from a single household can share a room. In the other rooms, people from a maximum of two households may stay together.”

Despite all the new rules and restrictions, the fun of sailing should not be forgotten. “Even though some of the rules are new to the procedures in yacht schools, we’re sure that everyone will feel comfortable and enjoy their time with us,” says Jochen Kopf. “As always, we’ll do our very best to provide a great sailing experience and the best care.”
